Carpet and Textile Disinfection

DisinfectionDisinfecting and cleaning carpets may seem like it can’t be that difficult, as it is done by a great many skilled and less skilled people and tradesmen or companies, either legally or so-called. “The difference is not only in the price levels of these tasks, but above all in the result and long-term sustainability of the cleaned and disinfected carpets.

It’s like in any industry, only those with enough knowledge and experience can do a quality job. Disinfecting and cleaning carpets is a difficult job and should only be done by a true professional, because only this will ensure the right result and thus a satisfied customer and the best possible outcome and its long-term sustainability.

Our technicians are trained in a general overview of the appropriate disinfectants and deodorizers for the carpet materials to be cleaned, including an introduction to the various carpet backing constructions and components used in their manufacture, as well as the properties of the carpet fibers of their common types and dyeing procedures.

Carpet Renovation and Carpet Inspection is provided by our technicians and supervisors and is conducted in accordance with IICRC standards, which are governed by the 2014 edition of the ANSI-approved certification standard – ANSI/IICRC S800 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Inspection of Textile Flooring. The ANSI/IICRC S800 standard and certification covers the inspection and inspection of textile floor coverings to include carpet and rugs. S800 defines procedural standards and a reference guide for the professional inspection of textile floor coverings. This standard defines basic operating procedures and techniques for inspecting/evaluating: carpet and its types, characteristics and conditions appropriate and recommended maintenance after installation with a focus on surface renovation and impregnation.

DisinfectionDisinfection and deodorization of carpet has its own laws and through the inspection of carpet and textile flooring, it is determined that each has its own unique characteristics and each inspection is carefully evaluated for proper application of this standard. In some cases, deviation from the defined standard is possible and in such cases, common sense and professional judgment must be exercised in all cases.

Carpet inspection in the context of carpet disinfection is very important. One of the important steps is to determine and establish the PH value of the carpet fibre and fabric in order to select the appropriate technological concept in terms of using the appropriate cleaning chemical and special cleaners of the PROCHEM Professional™ system. IICRC certification leads us to know and follow the basic principles of professional carpet renovation methodology, namely evaluating PH factors and selecting the appropriate chemical and technological approach for the use and phasing of each cleaning ingredient in a multi-phase carpet and textile renovation. This ensures that the correct cleaning solution is selected so that the carpet fibre remains soft, fine and supple and is not exposed to unnecessarily high alkalinity which is not beneficial to the fibre.

Disinfection

Carpet disinfection and PH value (i.e. “hydrogen potential”), also known as the hydrogen exponent, is a number used in chemistry to express whether an aqueous solution reacts acidically or alkaline. It is a logarithmic scale with a range of values from 0 to 14 (for most aqueous solutions, solutions of strong acids and bases or non-aqueous solutions may take different values); neutral water has a pH of 7 under standard conditions. For acids, the pH is less than seven – the smaller the number, the “stronger” the acid; in contrast, bases have a pH > 7, the larger the number, the “stronger” the base. Our company uses professional PH meters – digital instruments used for sampling, which, thanks to a special laser lens, measure the PH of the surface before and after cleaning.

Knowing and understanding the PH scale will help us avoid the dangers of using water-based cleaners that are too strong and could damage the carpet fibers or cause the dye to come loose or brown the carpet backing. It is very important to know that each step up or down on the scale from PH7 means an increase in the strength of acidity or alkalinity by a factor of ten.

Carpet DESIGN AND INPUT IMPORTANT INFORMATION

DisinfectionCarpet disinfection will help improve the appearance of any room. If you want your carpet to be clean, you must vacuum your carpet regularly, especially with a well-filtered vacuum cleaner. Not only the power of the vacuum cleaner, but especially the air flow and the filtering system have the main influence on the thorough and effective regular maintenance of your carpets. After some time and time, no matter how much you have a good quality vacuum cleaner your carpet needs to undergo professional carpet renovation and impregnation and so eventually you will have to call and contact a professional company providing expert and reputed carpet renovation and impregnation.

Carpet Sanitization and carpet deodorization helps reduce carpet discoloration and stains that can result from various culprits and causes such as medications, perfumes, chloramines, insecticides, animal stains, coffee, plant foods, mustard and more. Since the average “life” on carpet is roughly between 12-15 years, some of that damage is expected to be there. However, with the help of our certified technicians, we will completely revive your carpets and perform a thorough restoration and renovation.

When deciding and designing the most appropriate method of carpet or rug maintenance, it is crucial to correctly identify the type of carpet and how the fibers and carpet backing are constructed. The type of carpet is also related to its potential shrinkage or stretching or problems with dirt buildup. The condition and type of carpet backing has a direct impact on the choice of carpet maintenance method and outcome. Therefore, always distinguish and specify whether the carpet is natural (wool, silk, cotton, jute) or synthetic (nylon, acrylic, polyester, polypropylene) and whether the backing construction is woven or non-woven.

Our technicians differentiate carpets according to their use, e.g. all-over glued carpets (called metrazas), piece carpets, runners, carpet rugs, oriental rugs, natural carpets – goat, jute, coconut, sheep, wool and Persian or silk carpets, as well as carpet tiles. Another distinguishing factor of our technicians is the division and differentiation of carpets according to the type of production. We differentiate carpets into woven (oriental – Persian / wool), tufted or looped, tufted, plush, and glued carpets. The last very important aspect of the initial inspection is to determine the type of fibre. Within the internal standard we distinguish and divide fibres into natural fibres of animal origin – wool, cattle hair or vegetable fibres – jute, cotton, hemp, sisal, coconut, flax.

Carpet disinfection and the appropriate technological procedure is determined by the type of carpet (see above) and also, above all, by the state of soiling of the carpet or carpets.

Carpet disinfection and ordering

Ordering carpet disinfection and carpet deodorization precedes the start of our mutual cooperation. It is advisable to order carpet renovations well in advance, at least one week in advance. The most appropriate form of ordering carpet disinfection and comprehensive information is preferred via e-mail order or telephone specification. In case of your detailed information, our company is able to prepare and prepare a preliminary quotation or budget for you immediately. In the case of telephone contact, we will of course ask for a number of essential information for us:

  1. Address and location of the site
  2. Carpet area and extent of renovation
  3. Material and type of carpet
  4. Additional services – impregnation, recovery
  5. Time and preferred completion date

Carpet DESIGN AND QUOTE

Personal inspection of the premises sometimes has its justification and especially in cases of larger premises or more specific orders our company prefers a personal inspection. The reason for this is to thoroughly monitor the condition in which the carpet is located and to agree on an estimate of the number of m2, staff and any additional services. Then our company is ready to prepare a quote or budget.

A quotation for carrying out carpet disinfection always contains important information that makes up the overall budget:

  1. Address and location of the siteDisinfection
  2. Number of workers
  3. estimate of the number of m2
  4. Price CZK /m2
  5. Transport
  6. Special cleaners and removers
  7. Additional services (impregnation, etc.)
  8. Preliminary final amount

Carpet disinfection price quote always includes basic eco-friendly cleaning products using our own cleaning equipment. The price may be adjusted as the carpet may have highly resistant dirt, significant amounts of dust and associated repeated vacuuming, high grease, etc. Special cleaners, impregnating products are charged separately at extra cost. Their use is always consulted with the client by our staff before they are used.

Carpet disinfection and technical information

Carpet disinfection, unlike deodorization, where we just perfume the cleaned material to make it smell nice, is already somewhat more complicated because we already have to deal with the problems that have their origin. For example, pet odours, food residues, urine and odours from other organic sources, but last but not least, we also often have to deal with carpets that smell after being cleaned in an unprofessional manner.

All of these cases have one common factor, which is bacteria feeding on the resulting conditions that are very favourable to them, and their overgrowth is the origin of the odour that the material emits. In order to remove the odour thus produced, it is necessary to move to controlled removal, as mere deodorisation does not help in these cases.

The solution to this problem is the application of Fibrefresh, a professional biological product developed by Prochem. It is a dual-action enzymatic product that quickly removes odour and has a long-lasting natural biological effect, meaning that the enzymes directly destroy the bacteria that create the odour. Fibrefresh can be applied directly to the carpet or upholstery, possibly before cleaning or as a final spray after cleaning. A fast-acting, odour-absorbing formula with long-lasting natural biological enzymatic action.

MAXI VAC

The solution to odour removal with an ozone generator is currently the absolute top of the range.

With this technology, absolute cleanliness is achieved simply within 60 minutes. The PROFI 10000 TRIO DIGI ozone generator kit and Maxi bag disinfect quickly and with minimal effort. Just place the cleaned carpets and mattresses in the bag and switch on the ozonator and in 60 minutes everything is ready.

The power of active oxygen does all the final work for us. Exceptional disinfecting effects kill everything bad that is in mattresses and carpets. The device we use is the only patented purely Czech product in the Czech Republic registered as a biocidal and disinfectant product – active ingredient: ozone 290.8 mg/m3 – CAS 10028-15-6

Maxi bag is registered with the Ministry of Health as a biocidal, antiviral and disinfectant product under reg. MZDR 13172/2020/OBP in categories PT 2 (health care) and PT 4 (food).

  • The ozone eliminates odours because it kills the causative bacteria.
  • It kills up to 99% of bacteria without the harmful effects of chemicals.
  • This gentle and natural care does not damage items and helps to prolong the life of disinfected items.
  • Disinfects all bulky items such as sports equipment, curtains, work clothes, shoes, etc.
  • After detaching the maxi bag, the ozone generator serves as a handy helper for cleaning air, water, miscellaneous items and other practical uses.

DisinfectionRemoving odor and urine contamination, one of the main tasks important to remove urine contamination is identifying the type of carpet. In commercial settings, carpets with an impermeable backing (rubber or vinyl backing of the carpet) are typically used, and this means that liquid that has entered the carpet is “contained” at the level of the backing, preventing it from further penetration. In this case, with quick action and removal of the fluid, the problems of subsequent odour are partially eliminated.

Carpets in a normal domestic environment are usually without this underlay, so there is nothing to prevent urine from seeping through the carpet to the floor or any carpet backing, which means that surface cleaning of the carpet will not be enough as the floor or backing under the carpet may also be contaminated. For this reason, the potential for floor contamination should always be taken into account and the condition of the floor under the carpet should be checked. Often, the ‘clean from below’ method of cleaning the floor or underlay (or replacing it) will have a better result than the ‘clean from above’ method of cleaning only the carpet itself.

Effective removal of urine and odour is ensured by Prochem B153 Urine Neutraliser. Prochem ‘B153 Urine Neutralizer neutralizes the smell of urine while deodorizing the surface to be cleaned. This product is specifically designed to deal with urine contamination by neutralizing the ammonia and urine crystals that cause the odor, and also prevents damage to the color of the carpet fibers, which can be caused by the chemical metamorphosis of urine to ammonia.

Prochem B153 Urine Neutralizer – can be used in a variety of environments besides carpets and fabrics, including hard floors and even urinals, for example. The application is done by spraying, allowing it to work (this is the time it does its job) then extraction rinsing the solution or suctioning it with a sponge or rag.
